Catching the wave of hipster living that spread from Los Feliz and Silver Lake, Highland Park offers hip, urban style with a touch of history that comes from being one of the older neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

Real Estate: Highland Park is fuller of older homes including both single-family and multi-family residences for sale. Craftsman and bungalow homes as well as Spanish-style homes are popular here. Apartments and townhouses are also for sale in the area and some newer developments with lofts and condos are being built.

Community Life:  Highland Park is hipster paradise with trendy restaurants, art galleries, and shops clustered along York Boulevard. A monthly Art Walk brings out local residents. York Park is a recently created urban park with a rattlesnake slide and outdoor xylophone.  The Old L.A. Certified Farmer’s Market is open on Tuesday afternoons.

 

Education: Highland Park is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District including Aldama Elementary, Buchanan Street Elementary, San Pascual Elementary, Luther Burbank Middle School, and Benjamin Franklin Senior High. Local private schools include Good Shepherd Christian and St. Ignatius of Loyola Elementary.

 

Transportation: Highland Park is easily reached by the 110 Freeway. The Metro Gold Line has a Highland Park station and there are several bus lines which run along Figueroa Street. 

 

Local Attractions:  Heritage Square Museum is a unique collection of Victorian homes that can be toured. Galco’s Soda Pop Stop is famed in the area as one of the oldest local businesses. The Highland Park Police Station on York Boulevard is the oldest surviving police station in Los Angeles. It is now operated as the Los Angeles Police Museum and has appeared in countless television shows and films.
